Founded in 2013, SIM Dance Studio delivers professional, structured dance education in Johor Bahru — now home to hundreds of dancers each year.

We blend technical rigour with creative freedom — strong foundations first, then performance, musicality, and style.

Liping Sim — the heart behind SIM

What started as a love for hip hop became a place where dancers across Johor Bahru could grow, compete, and belong. Liping founded SIM Dance Studio in 2013 with a simple belief: that discipline and joy make the best dancers.

Over a decade in, she still teaches weekly classes, mentors the competition crew, and keeps the studio rooted in its community values.

A decade in motion

From one small class to the studio it is today, here are the milestones that shaped SIM.

2013

Studio founded

SIM Dance Studio opens its doors in Johor Bahru with a focus on hip hop and jazz foundations.

2015

First annual showcase

Our dancers take the stage for the first time — a tradition we proudly continue every year.

2018

Kids program launched

We expand to teach dancers from age 4, building coordination, rhythm, and confidence.

2020

Studio upgrade

Relocated to our current home — a larger, purpose-built studio with sprung floors and mirrored walls.

2022

Masterclass series

Guest instructors from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and Korea begin teaching regular workshops.

2024

A decade of teaching has grown SIM into one of JB's most trusted studios — and we're just getting started.

Cool and pretty at the same time — Bunny J (Fying Yap) is one of the studio's most established names.

Charcoal has over 10 years of professional teaching experience and has represented Malaysia on the international stage in Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam.

A dance instructor from Johor, Malaysia, Midatsu is an award-winning street dance educator and choreographer, often invited to judge local and international competitions.

With 14 years of dance experience, Qian Ling trained across Ballet, Belly Dance, Chinese Dance, Street Dance and Rhythmic Gymnastics, building a strong foundation in technique and musicality.
